The City has transitioned to a non-exclusive franchise agreement from a permit system for solid waste haulers that provide services to commercial and multi-family properties in the City of El Segundo. The new non-exclusive franchise agreements are valid for two years and became effective April 2025.

Public Works staff received direction in the November 5, 2024, City Council Meeting regarding the referenced item. Pursuant to the Council’s direction, all qualified haulers that successfully responded to the Request for Proposals for Commercial Solid Waste Collection, Recycling, and Disposal Services for the City of El Segundo were offered the opportunity to enter into a Non-Exclusive Franchise Agreement with the City. There was a total of ten (10) qualified haulers that notified the City of their intention to enter into a non-exclusive franchise agreement. At the direction of the City Council, the term of the non-exclusive agreement that will be offered will be limited to an initial two years.
