On Friday, February 23, 2024, El Segundo City Council issued the below official letter to City of Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass regarding the failed leadership at the Hyperion Wastewater Treatment Plant.

 

The letter details the recent repeated instances of equipment failures, lack of proactive maintenance, odor leaks, poor communication, faulty information, and flagrant violations of regulatory standards - having received five NOVs from South Coast AQMD since January 28, 2024 - and demands immediate and decisive action to remove Los Angeles Sanitation Director and General Manager Barbara Romero from office.
