El Segundo’s experimental museum celebrates its 10th anniversary

"When ESMoA opened its doors in El Segundo 10 years ago, art collectors Eva and Brian Sweeney had “no clue what they were doing,” the couple said.

“We were looking for a storage space for our art collection,” Eva Sweeney said in a recent interview.

Out of that basic need, ESMoA — initially a shortening of the El Segundo Museum of Art, but recently rebranded as the Experimentally Structured Museum of Art  — was founded.

The museum began humbly, in a 15-foot alleyway and a portion of El Segundo’s old Main Street post office. But the Sweeneys transformed that into a 25-foot wide, 28-foot tall, 137-foot deep, eclectically creative experience that has attracted artistic talent dabbling in myriad media from the South Bay and around the world." ~ Daily Breeze
